Sub. Streets
A seminar on the requirements for additions of subdivision streets to the state’s secondary road system will be held at the Culpeper District office on Orange Road in Culpeper on October 2.
In January, the State Highway and transportation Commission eased the requirements for subdivision streets in some categories. Changes included easing construction standards of lightly traveled streets where terrain—particularly in mountainous areas—makes the higher standards difficult and more expensive to attain.
Other changes include an amending of right-of-way requirements to permit reduced widths, establishing a formal review procedure to resolve disagreements on interpretation and application of street standards, increasing maintenance fees and developers’ performance surety to reflect inflation, allowing blanket approval of certain precast manhole and drainage inlets readily available from fabricators and accepting for maintenance so-called stub streets (short extensions of existing streets intended to connect future streets) if their construction is required by local ordinances.
