Injured
Four Sperryville youths were injured early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle traffic crash just east of Sperryville on Route 211.
Kent R. Jenkins was operator of the 1967 Chevelle in which Greg Bright. Paul L. Jenkins and David E. Whorton were passengers, according to Trooper H. A. Newlin.
The vehicle went out of control, became airborne and slammed into an embankment, said Newlin. The car was demolished, he said and charges are pending.
The driver sustained lacerations of the face and minor internal injuries, said the officer and added that Bright sustained a broken arm and leg, sprained back and facial lacerations. He was riding in the front passenger seat.
Paul Jenkins received lacerations and abrasions and sprained wrist while Whorton had a fractured shoulder and laceration.
The same morning. Richard Lewis of Springfield driving a '78 Dodge apparently fell asleep, ran off the highway and struck the bank on Route 211 and 667 intersection in Sperryville. He was not injured, said Trooper Newlin, who investigated, but was cited for driving under the influence, driving on a suspended or revoked license and reckless driving.
