Commissioner Carbaugh noted that the aflatoxin monitoring program for com is continuing in Virginia. Only one sample has exceeded the FDA guidelines of 100 parts per billion. VDACS will continue its monitoring efforts and the Commissioner asked that any producer with questions concerning the program contact the Department.
To this date the Commissioner noted some 73 localities in the state have been designated by the Farmers Home Administration for disaster assistance. Some 43 of these localities have been requested by Governor Dalton for assistance from the Small Business Administration.
All the programs under Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service are in effect including the emergency feed program. Under this program livestock producers may receive 3 cents per pound of hay or other feed grain equivalent in costshare payments to help maintain their livestock operations through the current drought period.
