Visits Up 27%
Visitors to Shenandoah National Park during August showed a 27 percent increase over August of a year ago. This, in turn, gave the year's total for 1980 a 14 percent boost over 1979.
Total visitors to the park during August this year was 285.000 while the previous year in August travelers numbered 223.600. Visitors this year to date are 1.142.600 while a year ago it stood at 1.002.200.
The maximum temperature at the Big Meadows weather station was 78 degrees while the minimum was 60. Precipitation measured 6.41 inches during August.
Boy Scouts
Organize
An organization meeting of Boy Scout Troop 36 sponsored by the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department will be held Thursday. September 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the fire hall. All returning scouts and boys, ages 11-18. wishing to join are urged to attend with their parents for registration.
Lillard Reunion
The fourth annual Lillard reunion will be held Sunday, September 14, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Flint Hill carnival grounds. All family members are invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the day.
