The Wormalds were not among those members of the Washington Press group who had to leave Delhi at an ungodly hour February 27. Those who were flying straight home—not very many. 1 suspect—had a 5:45 a.m. departure, not untypical of flights from Delhi to Europe and North America. Even those who were going on to other parts of India did not for the most part seem to be much better off. But our flight was timed to leave at 12:30 p.m.
One of the many amenities of the press club’s excursion was that we could stay on in India after the end of the official program, at our own expense, of course, but without any addition to the air fare. Only we had to make our plans and reservations before leaving home. Even allowing for the demands of the garden and for visits to family and friends in Europe. Virginia and 1 thought it would make sense to add three or four days to the ten days of official hospitality. We could still be home by the middle of March.
