resubmitted his request for an ag district on September 24. The new application—including Irwin’s, Dietl’s and Saltonstall’s tagons—went to the planners on October 7 and was never referred to the ag district advisory committee. Neither did the planning commission advertise or hold a public hearing before voting unanimously to recommend that the supervisors approve the district. Therefore, it appears that procedures for establishing a district will have to be picked up again with the required legal notice of receipt of a district application. Next, the application will have to go to the advisory committee for comment and then back before the planning commission for public hearing before it can be forwarded to the supervisors for consideration.

Fund Drive
The Rappahannock County Library has launched its annual fund drive with letters soliciting contributions going out to library users throughout the county.
According to James Jamieson, president of the non-profit Friends of the Rappahannock County Library, Inc.Tthe library has shown a growth rate of 630 percent in the decade between 1971 and now. Circulation of books climbed from 10,800 in 1979 to 12,000 last year while patron usage jumped from 8,100 to 8,500.
Loan of books is free to library users but running the library costs money. Contributions from the state and federal governments may be sent only for books and related materials. Operating expenses must be covered with funds supplied by the county, the town of Washington, income from endowments and donations from private citizens. Of these, private contributions are the largest single source of funds available to the library.
Friends of the library note that continuing donations are vitally important to the maintenance of the current high level of service.
