Farm Fencing Tear, Wednesday, November 11 There is a tremendous amount of interest in the relatively new smooth hightensile wire fencing system that have been introduced into the state within the past few years. Many believe these new systems can reduce fencing costs substantially and increase the useful life of the fence. Since the folks at' the Shenandoah Valley Research Station at Steeles Tavern have taken the leadership in introducing and testing these new fencing systems as they come on the market, we have made arrangements for Rappahannock and Madison County farmers to observe and compare the more than 18 different fencing systems now being tested on this 1,000 acre farm. Everyone associated with the high-tensile smooth wire fencing industry agrees that these fences must be constructed properly to be successful and effective. Sam Winthrow, the most experienced Virginian in this type of fencing, will explain proper end assemblies, bracing and other construction principles. We will meet at ‘ the Extension Office at 8 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, and pool transportation. We should be through the fencing tour by 12:10 p.m. and plans are to eat at White’s Truck Stop.
Thrift Shop
The Washington Ladies Auxiliary Thrift Shop will close November 20 for the winter months.
The shop will be open on Election Day, November 3, and on Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and will be open each Wednesday and Friday until the 20th.
Special sales will be held during this time and the selection includes winter clothing for men, women and children along with useful household items.
The members of the auxiliary would like to express their thanks to everyone who supported their shop during the past year.
Reorganization
The Castleton Volunteer Fire Department will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, November 4, beginning at 8 p.m. at the fire hall.
Everyone in the community is urged to participate as reorganization of the company will be discussed.
“We strongly need your support in this effort,” said a spokesman for the department.
