Anti-Crime

The ACT-Virginia program originated by Delegate Gerald Baliles as a comprehensive effort to seek out local recommendations on solving the crime problem in all areas has established a chapter in Rappahannock.

Headed by Carson Johnson of Sperryville as director, the committee is composed of Mrs. Dorothy Butler, also of Sperryville; supervisor Hubert Gilkey of Chester Gap; commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner and Sheriff W. A. Buntin.

Delegate Baliles, now a candidate for Attorney General of Virginia in the November 3 election, has implemented the involvement of business owners, school teachers, law enforcement officials, young people, retired people and concerned citizens in the

anti-crime movement.

Baliles said each team will determine the nature and scope of crime in its locality; analyze the causes of increase in crime and recommend actions for the locality and state consideration. Baliles will review the recommendations from all the state’s teams and if elected in November will present them to the 1982 General Assembly.
