Gets Funds
An-additional $6.7 million has been made available to Virginia through the Federal Low Income Energy Assistance Block Grant, according to the Virginia Department of Welfare. As a result. Virginia's Fuel Assistance Program is now expected to receive $34.1 million.
As of December 31, 1%1, $15.3 million had been committed to assist low income families with their fuel bills.
In addition to helping needy families pay their heating bills, funds are also budgeted for repairs to dangerous heating equipment. Eligible households may receive a maximum of $200 to repair or replace inoperable or unsafe heating equipment. To qualify for this assistance, a household must be eligible for a fuel benefit and the household's heating equipment must be inoperable or pose a health hazard.
Persons in need of assistance to pay their fuel bills may apply for help at the Rappahannock Department of Welfare in Washington, telephone 6753613.
