The county’s special committee on illegal hunting should also consider sending a delegation to the capitol in April for the Virginia Game Commission’s annual public hearing on hunting regulations. As we understand it, the authority to control hunting deer with dogs rests primarily with the Game Commission and that type of hunting is a major factor contributing to the abuses landowners have suffered here throughout the past season.
It’s not just landowners who should avail themselves of every opportunity to attack the dilemma posed by slob hunters. The good sportsmen who abide by rules and regulations, the majority who respect the rights of property owners should lend their expertise to the effort. After all, they are the ones who will suffer as more,and more posted signs go up on farm fences. We hope that the good hunters will join in the fight to curb hunting abuses, both at meetings here in Rappahannock and at the Game Commission and Forestry Association sessions in Richmond.
