Supervisor H.B. Wood said he too had cows and knew the dangers to livestock posed by stray dogs. But a single claim for an expensive horse could wipe out the total dog fund and more, he added.
''I've lost as many sheep and calves as anyone on this board.” said supervisor Latham, noting that stray dogs are "a real nuisance." He agreed, however, that maintaining the dog fund could place the county in financial jeopardy.
Other counties have laws controlling dogs, countered Fridenstine. and as a result, those jurisdictions have few problems with strays killing livestock.
Supervisor Clarence Baldwin asked if the dog license fees are used to pay livestock claims.
The fees go to pay the dog warden as well, answered Latham.
