On January 6, the upstairs room of the Rappahannock court house was filled with angry citizens, up in arms over illegal hunting which mushroomed to serious proportions this year.
Their complaints fell on sympathetic ears, evidenced by the willingness of the county supervisors to form a special committee comprised of the board, landowners, law enforcement personnel and game officials to address the problem of illegal hunting on posted property, whether from the road or by hunters who have permission to hunt on adjoining lands. A session has already been scheduled for January 27 when the committee will meet with Rappahannock’s delegate to the General Assembly at the court house in Washington.
But citizens who have been plagued by slob hunters have an earlier opportunity to air their concerns. The Virginia Forestry Association is sponsoring a workshop on “Helping Landowners Deal with (Problem) Sportsmen” to be held January 25 in Richmond.
