Sightings of gypsy moth have been reported in numerous locations across the state, according to State Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner S. Mason Carbaugh.
Gypsy moth caterpillars have been discovered in Fairfax County in approximately 8 new locations. There have also been sightings in Loudoun County, Alexandria, Arlington, Fauquier County, and in several other localities in the Northern Virginia area.
The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) is running about a week behind calls at this time, because of the heavy volume. With the help of county personnel and State Division of Forestry, USDA and Virginia Cooperative Extension personnel, representatives of the Department do intend to follow up on all calls as rapidly as possible. ,
