Rappahannock High School Principal Robert Chappell appeared before the school board Tuesday night to request its permission to initiate changes that would add to the high §chool mathematics and elective course offerings.
“We can’t offer the choice we’d like to, since our request for an additional math teacher was cut (by the supervisors)” said Chappell. “But by having a math teacher teach five sections of math instead of four of math and one of social studies, we can do the best with what we’ve got.”
Chappell’s proposal was to add a tenth grade applied math program for belowgrade-level students, a ninth grade applied math course for grade level students and a pre-algebra course for those eighth graders following a college preparatory curriculum.
Those eighth graders ready to tackle algebra would be able to do so, Chappell continued, and applied math and eighth grade math graduates would also be able to go on to the algebra course.
