Another attraction was the monument in Washington which lists the name of Edward Corder as one who helped George Washington survey and plat the town. The Corder descendants also viewed the location of those properties where John Corder and his children once lived. On the tour was the Battle Run Baptist Church where Martin Corder was baptized and later became a deacon before becoming a minister.
The John Corder family was respected and active in this area of Virginia. John had volunteer for duty in the Revolutionary War at 15 years of age and later served for three months in the Virginia Militia. He was a tarmer and land owner in his adult years. Two of his sons, Vincent and Nathan, were commissioners of the court in Rappahannock County. His son Martin was a Baptist minister and John, Jr. was a prominent farmer. Elias Corder was a large land owner near Amissville. Three sons, Alexander, Elisha, and Elijah, died early in their adult life. His daughter, Mary (Polly), married Daniel Jackson, a cousin of President Andrew Jackson.
