increase computational skills and the pre-algebra course would provide an entry level alternative to algebra I for the college-bound student.

Chappell said that these changes would allow Rappahannock schools to require three years of math in grades 8-12 for all graduates, effective with the close of 1987.

“This is the result of a surface review of possibilities,” Chappell said. “Obviously, to make extensive curriculum changes, we would need a complete review of math progress from kindergarten through grade 12.”

In addition, Chappell asked the board for permission to offer accounting, advanced woodworking, computer concepts, personal typing and Psychology.

Chappell said that the record-keeping course repeated knowledge taught in general business and in consumer math. He said that Rappahannock graduates taking this course will be qualified for an entry-level bookkeeping position.
