The Center, as its name indicates, functions not only as a child care facility but also as a learning center, offering a program in speech therapy and tutorial sessions for the learning disabled. Two people who contribute to the success of the Learning Center are Margaret and Sid Gottlieb, both of whom are instructors in its classes.
A New Director for the Center
Kathleen Schilling takes over as Director with si history devoted to the care and education of children. As Director of children’s education at St. Luke’s Church from 1969 to ’80, Schilling organized and presided over the volunteer teachers program. She also coordinated for the Church an annual speakers series on human potential and family life. 1
Schilling’s administration of the St. Luke’s program and, specifically, her research in children’s" literature and media was impressive enough to attract the attention of Silver Burdette Publishers, who asked her to create an annotated bibliography for a media section in their Life, Love, Joy series.
