This Holiday Season was a . particularly special one for me. Why? Because the people at the Rapphannock News asked me to become the editor of this paper. I considered the offer a gift, one about which I could truly say, ‘This is what I wanted for Christmas.’ I will keep this gift; the fit i& perfect, or so I am going to assume. In short, I accepted the offer without hesitation.
Over the past three years I have made increasingly regular visits to Rappahannock. I couldn’t stay away from the place. What drew me to this county were the good friends I had made here and the rich beauty of the land. Land and people, environment and friends, few things rank above these in preciousness. Only one obstacle prevented me from settling here: employment, and now that is taken care of.
I am in no hurry to choose sides in Rappahannock’s controversies, which are serious and heated. Wisdom sides first with attempts to unify people. My instinct is to resolve, to mend. To assist in the realization 6f these
