Elias Wines, 84, of Chester Gap, died Monday, December 24 at his residence.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday at Chester Gap Baptist Mission by the Rev. William L. Alford. Burial was in Williams Cemetery at Chester Gap.
Mr. Wines was born May 20,1900, in Rappahannock County, son of the late John and Jemima Williams Wines. His wife was the late Mamie Henry Wines.
Surviving are two sons, Waldo Wines of Chester Gap and Ray Wines of Culpeper, seven daughters, Mazie Williams, Hazel Williams, Virgie Ubben, Helen Foster and Rachel Williams, all of Chester Gap, Marlen Wines of Front Royal and May Engle of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; 45 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Turner- Robertshaw Funeral Home in Front Royal was in charge of the arrangements.
W.C. Armstrong, Jr.
Retired Attorney
William Clemison Armstrong, Jr., 79, of Front Royal, a retired Warren County attorney and a former chairman of the County’s Democratic Committee, died Sunday, December 30 in Warren Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal by the Rev. Thomas T. Clay. Burial was at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday in the Warren County Circuit Courtroom.
Mr. Armstrong was bom April 22, 1905, in Rappahannock County, son of the late William C. Armstrong, Sr. and Mary Moffett Armstrong. He attended the college of William and Mary and the University of Virginia before beginning his law practice in Warren County, which continued for over 50 years before his retirement.
Mr. Armstrong served several years as Warren County commonwealth’s attorney and as a county trial justice during World War II. His service as chairman of the County’s Democractic Committee lasted for more than < 20 years. A member of the Calvary Episcopal Church, he was past president of the Front Royal Kiwanis Club and was a member of the advisory board for the F&M National Bank.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Borden Armstrong; a daughter, Kathryn Armstrong Johnson of Roanoke; a sister, Moffett Beall of Aldington and four grandchildren.
Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal was in charge of the arrangements.
