A letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, sent to Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, threatens to further delay construction of the Sperryville sewage system. °
The Planning Commission in its January 16 meeting pondered various responses to the letter before deciding to forward it to Doug Baumgardner, Attorney for the Water and Sewer Authority.
The letter, which makes clear that Rappahannock does not yet qualify for flood plane insurance, requests that the County amend its zoning ordinance. In regard to the flood plane district in Sperryville where construction on the sewage system would begin, the Federal Agency writes “The boundaries of the 100 year flood plane as delineated on the current flood insurance rate map are not referenced in the Rappahannock Zoning Ordinance...”
