It has been said that we live in an age hat has no heroes. Whoever said that must never have had a chance to meet the people like our volunteer firemen. These are people who go about their daily business like everyone else, but are ready to go on a call while most of us stay in our warm, cozy homes.
The News would render the entire community a tremendous service if it were to run a series of articles on the work of these people — running into burning houses, being overcome by smoke, suffering frostbite, exhaustion, pulling out people from smashed up cars—people who on top of everything else give more of their time to organize ■ turkey shoots, games and find other ways to raise money for their equipment , fuel, etc. so that when we need them they can come and help us.
You recently had a photograph of Jim and Louise Grigsby, also our neighbors and volunteers, receiving an award for their work with the Castleton Fire.Department, and missed an opportunity to tell your readers what kind of dedication stands behind an award like that. You still have a chance to do it.

A special thanks are extended to Deputy John Facchina, Deputy Gary Settle, the Sperryville f ire Department and the Washington Fire Department for a quick response to "Help!”
On Sunday afternoon these deputies and firemen quickly extinguished a fire from my car that was parked at my residence.
