Enjoying the warmth ot their new, solar energy home is Howard and Helen Holschuh. The winter sun shines all day through the South facing windows keeping it cozy and warm. On cloudy days their wood stove takes over. Carefully located air ducts keep the warm air circulating throughout the house, and solar collectors on the roof heat their water year round!!
Howard designed and built his home. Helen loves walking on the warm quarry tiled floor that covers a concrete slab. The tile absorbs the sun’s heat during the day and radiates it back into the rooms after sunset. A complete article on the Holschuh’s solar home can be found in “The Voice Of Experience,” a newspaper for the older residents of the local counties.
Howard Holschuh, who received his BA & MA in journalism from Stanford University in Stanford, California is the editor for this informative, interesting and entertaining newspaper and does a great deal of the writing, all on a voluntary basis. Dean’s List
Two students from Rappahannock County made the Dean’s List at Virginia Tech during the fall quarter. The students are Thomas H. Eastham from Flint Hill who is a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering, and Lynn W. Jones from Sperryville who is a junior majoring in architecture.
To make the Dean’s List at Tech, a student has to make a 3.4 grade point average or better in the university’s 4.0 grading system.
