Beverly Butler
Retired Steel Mill Worker
Graveside services were held for Beverly Butler on January 19 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Pendelton officiating. Burial was in the Gatewood family cemetery in Gid Brown Hollow.
Mr. Butler was born in Rappahannock County April 6, 1908 and departed this life on January 5 in Canton, Ohio.
He was the son of the late Rev. Beverly Butler, who was the founder of the Promise Land First Baptist Church and Dollie Ann Beckwith.
Mr. Butler moved to Ohio at an early age and was a steel mill worker until retirement. He was a member of the First Church of God in Christ in Canton, Ohio.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Vivian Herlene Gatewood of Washington; five grandchildren, Mrs. Martha Rector and Ms. Bonita Gatewood of Reston, Reginald Gatewood of Manassas, Albert Gatewood of Fairfax and Jeffrey Gatewood of Washington; 11 great grandchildren, Jackie, Gwendy and Kelly Timbers, Gredel and William Rector, Jr., Rodney, Angie and Reggie Gatewood, Eric Dunn, LaKasha Williams and Shawnbay Gatewood and a host of cousins and friends.
W.C. Thompson Funeral Home in Culpeper was in charge of the arrangements.
Ophelia Weakley
Retired Teacher
Mrs. Ophelia Mae Weakley, 80, of Luray, died Thursday, January 3 at Winchester Memorial Hospital.
Bom on July 22, 1904, in Page County, she was a daughter of the late A. Benjamin Franklin and Lelia Mae Bradley Griffith.
Mrs. Weakley retired after teaching school 35 years in Page, Warren and Rappahannock Counties. She was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church. On March 19, 1943, she married Dewey Minor Weakley, who died January 29,1966.
Surviving is a brother, Harold F. Griffith of Ely, Nevada. Two brothers are deceased.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 6 at the Bradley Funeral Home in Luray by the Rev. William A. Ricketts, Jr. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
