The county basketball rivalry between Rappahannock County High School and Wakefield School continued on Wednesday, January 16 with double wins for RCHS. Rappahannock’s junior varsity team opened the night with a 52-30 win over Wakefield, and the varsity game ended with a 96-58 win for Rappahannock.
“We played our best game of the year offensively, but we could have played better defensively,” said varsity Coach Don Dawson of the Wakefield game. The team broke the RCHS high scoring record for a game, and Tommy Jenkins set a new individual high scoring record with 37 points for the game. The high scorer for Wakefield was Russell Rowzie with 23 points.
Dawson said that the game was a good confidence builder for the team that has a 1-3 district record and a 2-5 overall record for the season so far. “Both strings got to play one half of the ggfre, and the kids enjoyed it,” said Dawson. “Both teams played hard, and Wakefield never gave up.”
Rappahannock will play the district’s fourth place team, Stonewall Jackson, Friday night at home, and Dawson is hoping for a win. “I think that we’re in pretty good shape right
Johnny Cash show
coming in March
The Johnny Cash Show will be presented March 23 in two performances at the Wayside Theatre, Middletown, as a fund-raiser for the 1985 season of the Wayside Foundation for the Arts.
The country music singer will perform with the show band and his wife June Carter Cash at 6 and 8:30 p.m.
