When Mr. Settle applied for the building permit in the spring of 1985, he had been told that 50 feet of sideyard would be necessary. “I only have two acres and was told that there would have to be 50 feet “of sideyard,” said Mr. Settle. “I feel that these regulations should be in proportion to property size. I thought my rights were being violated.”
Mr. Settle noted that the garage could only be built on one side of the house, since the chimney was on the other side. Mr. Settle noted that his house looked better with the new garage, which has $7,000 worth of mahagony siding. Mr. Settle’s neighbor, Mrs. Virginia Byrd Jones, who came to the meeting said, “I have no objection and in fact I think it looks a little better.”
