Mrs. Thomas Furness, founder of Piedmont Vineyards & Win*»-V, revolutionised Yirgiwa’s fledgling wine producing industry in 1973, when she became the first to commercially growthe controversial winifera (European) grapevine.
The 87-year old matriach is on the verge of another “first.”
Mrs. William Worrall, Mrs. Furness’ daughter and president of Piedmont Vineyards, and William E. S. Worrall, her grandson, and vice president of the vineyard, are spearheading a unique new approach ih Virginia for marketing the rarely produced semillon wine.
Virginia Semillon, produced exclusively in Virginia by Piedmont Vineyards, will be available soon in a limited edition bottling.
Nationally recognized artist, Lloyd Kelly, of Middleburg, has been commissioned by Piedmont Vineyards to design a distinctly different label taken from a recent painting, The Garden. The oil, which is of a French impressionistic style, was selected by Mrs. Furness to appear on just 1500 bottles of the vineyard’s 1984 vintage Virginia Semillon.
Benefit statements for residents
Every Rappahannock County resident who received or repaid any Social Security benefits during 1985 will receive a Social Security Benefit Statement, Form 1099, during January 1986, according to Bruce A. Hundley, Social Security manager in Culpeper.
The form will show the amount of Social Security benefits the person received as well as the amount of benefits they repaiel during 1985. The Social Security benefit statement should've jjffed just as any other Form 1099 received from a financial institution when the person completes his or her federal income tax return for 1985, Hundley said.
People who have other substantial income may have tb include up to half of their Social Security beneifts in their taxable income.
Included with the benefit statement will be IRS Notice 703. This is a work sheet that people can complete to see if any of their Social Security benefits may be subject to federal income tax.
Starting January 2, people who still have questions about the information shown on SSA Form 1099 can call the toll free nuihber, 1900-SSA-1099. People who have questions about tax liability or figuring income tax should call the nearest office of the Internal Revenue Service at the number shown on the back of IRS Notice 703 if they cannot find the answer in the IRS publications.
A free booklet, Publication 915, contains a detailed explanation of the entries on the benefit statement and explains about taxability of benefits.
