began subscribing to Newsfinder, a wire service tailored to the needs of weekly newspapers. Stories written by AP staff and the staff of subscribing newspapers are sent to a computerized storage facility in Wisconsin where they can be retrieved by member newspapers.
In the past, Arundel Newspapers have used wire copy to provide coverage of the state political conventions and a weekly news summary of important state events.
Mr. Martz, 28, joined the staff of the Times-Mirror in July 1979, as a sports writer/editor. After approximately two years of sports and feature writing, he began covering the county Planning Commission, a duty he still has. He also has covered the School Board and major planning issues considered by the Board of Supervisors.
A Petersburg native, he^graduated from the Univesity of Virginia in 1979 with a bachelor of arts degree in English.
He has won three Virginia Press Association writing awards and shared a first place award with staff for a series on economic development.
