As time ticked away, Rappahannock conceded the deficit, allowing the bench some playing time as the Panthers added five more points to finish the contest 87-69.

Walter Frye connected for 18 Panther points, while Richard Tribino and Godfrey Freeman added 13 each. Lee hit a game-high 27 points for the Cougars and Baltimore contributed an additional 24.

Matthew Settle added 11 points for Rappahannock, while also chalking up four steals. Fiye also had four swipes to his credit. Butch Foster and Godfrey Freeman led the Panthers under the boards, each picking up nine rebounds. Devon Moore followed closely with another eight rebounds.

"They showed us why they’re ranked number two in the state,” Coach Gary Leake said after the game. “My guys played as well as they’ve played all season . . . They gave 110 percent the whole game. That’s what we asked for. I was pleased - very proud of the way thpyplayed. ^fV *■ *

“Coming in, I wanted them (Manassas Park) to earn every point, dot' score any easy baskets. Our goal was not to be intimidated, to play aggressively and make them earn their scores... They worked for every point.”

Part • of the difference in the game, Coach Leake added, lay in the free throw totals. From the line Manassas Park connected for 31 points, the Panthers managed only 13 charity points. “Take away the foul shots and you have a tie game.”

Coach Leake had high praise for the senior members of the team, who concluded their high school careers on Friday night. “Walter Frye ended his varsity career with one of his best performances of the season, leading the team in scoring with 18 points . . . Richard Tribino and Devon Moore also finished their seasons with good games.”

“We didn’t give them any easy points. I’d rather get beaten that way,” Coach Leake concluded.
