Job training

The Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) of 1982 is committed to preparing individuals with serious employment barriers to become productive members of the labor force. Hie program, designed and implemented primarily through local agencies, provides for the delivery of job training and related services to low-income and unemployed youth and adults. In Planning District 9 (PD9), which includes the counties of Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison and Orange, one component of this service is offered by the Orange County Department of Public Welfare.
Under the auspices of the Piedmont Job Training Administration and funded by a grant from the Virginia Department of Education, the Orange County agency is currently formulating plans for a Certified Geriatric Nursing Assistant class to be held in Warrenton in mid March.
JTPA eligible individuals must be at least 18 years of age, out of school and not eligible to participate in the Nurse’s Aide programs administered by the local high schools in PD9. Income guidelines, as set forth by the Department of Labor, must also be met
The only cost to participants will be the purchase of white pants and appropriate shoes. All textbooks and materials will be provided. The course will run approximately four weeks and will include classroom training, “hands on” clinical experience, and CPR training. Classroom hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. five days per week. Clinical hours will follow a different schedule.
An acceptable rating in all areas must be achieved in order to become certified. Certification allows graduates to obtain employment in any nursing home in the state of Virginia. Some graduates prefer a private home setting and they will be trained with this in mind. In either case jobs in this field are numerous and stable.
