Be on the alert for tornadoes in the southeast 1-3, 15-16 and from Georgia through the Carolines to Virginia 21-24.
Last Call we predicted a total of 44 inches of snow for our area from November through March. Unless February and March drop heavy volumes of the white stuff on us, it doesn’t appear we’ll reach that total.
Incidentally, our own area Woolly Bears, “Hager” and “Alma," last October predicted a somewhat mild winter the first half with the latter part very mild.
Gardening activities are, at best, iffy, depending on how quickly your soil dries out. If possible, get potatoes in by the 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, also early peas; sow tomato seeds indoors on the 19th, St. Joseph’s Day. Otherwise don’t compact the soil.
This is the year for 17-year cicadas, erroneously called “locusts" but actually “Magidcada septendecim.”
