At a pay-out meeting last Thursday, the Rappahannock School Board approved the year-end budget report and voted to ask the Board of Supervisors to reappropriate for 1988-89 the $86,032 remaining in the educational account, with the money to go for completion of the high school expansion.
Superintendent David Gangel reported that the “big ticket” items on the expenditure list for the carried-over funds are auditorium seating, new lighting for the commons area and cafeteria, an additional cafeteria serving line, conduit and hook-up for the gymnasium scoreboard, renovation and integration of the old heating system with the new, library curtains, additional chairs and tables for the commons area, refurbishment and replacement of old office furniture, shrubs and landscaping for the gymnasium entrance, roofing for the boys’ old locker room which has been renovated into a classroom, and furnishings for the new special education room.
To that list, the School Board members added refurbishing of the teachers’ lounge, a ticket-taker’s stand, and shrubbery to screen the rear of the mechanical room from the new gymnasium entrance.
The board also accepted bids of 62.5 cents per gallon for leaded gasoline and 61.5 cents for unleaded from Quarles Oil Company, and 48.10 cents per gallon for fuel oil from Holtzman Oil Company.
