In personnel action, resignations were accepted from Tammy Heflin, third grade teacher, and Tracy Pence, RCHS math teacher. Sylvia Moore was hired as an elementary school teacher.
Following interviews with job candidates Tuesday night, the Rappahannock School Board offered the assistant principal posts at both county schools to applicants with experience and backgrounds in guidance counseling.
Michael Lacika was tendered the position at Rappahannock High School vacated by Bernie Chesshire, who recently took over as principal at the county’s elementary school. Currently a guidance counselor and coach at Poquoson High School in Tidewater, he helped develop and run an alternative education program for that school.
He is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s degree in counseling and is working towards administrative endorsement from the University of Virginia.
The position of assistant elementary school principal was offered to Mary Ann Biggs. A graduate of James Madison University with a master’s in counseling, Mrs. Biggs has also done extensive course work towards administrative endorsement. She has been a guidance counselor at RCHS since 1980 and taught English at the high school for two years.
