He said that there have been fewer requests for spraying this year than there were last year. And, he pointed out, areas near Chester Gap which were heavily defoliated for the past several years had much less severe outbreaks this spring.
“We may have to spray populated areas,” Mr. McCarthy conceded, because of aesthetic considerations, “but this is not an environmental problem.”
