and country dancing, a number of entertainers will circulate through the crowd on the hill, including a mime and a faeepainter.
And, also on the lawn, an Arabian equestrian group will perform. Horses and riders will be clad in traditional costumes, including saddles inlaid with silver and flowing robes. The group has performed in past years, Mr. Carrigan said, and always has been a crowd-pleaser.
Around 8 p.m., Rappahannock’s own Trapezoid will take the stage. This renowned band is known throughout the region for its fusion of acoustic music and haunting vocals. The group has recently added wind instruments and percussion, introducing a rhythm that propels the music and strengthens an already powerful sense of melody and texture.
The evening entertainment will be capped by a finale of patriotic songs and the unveiling of another tradition at First Washington’s Fourth: the lighting of the luminari.
As dusk settles on the Rappahannock hills the skies above Avon Hall will be lit once more by that most American of Independence Day traditions, the fireworks display.
There will be no admission charge to any of the festival’s events. Free parking will be available at the Washington Fire Department’s property just off Rt. 211, as well as along the town’s streets, except in areas marked with “No Parking” signs.
