On Saturday evening, April 16, Troop 250 of Callao honored Scott Kline by awarding him the rank of Eagle - the highest in Scouting.
Scott is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Kline and until recently lived with his parents and sister in Haynesville. Scott’s father, the former Superintendent of Camp 17, was recently transferred to Fairfax County, and the family has had to move to Fairfax, but Scott completed all of the requirements and earned his Eagle rank before moving to Fairfax. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Leake of Sperry ville.
Scott is 16 years old, and until he moved, was an 11th grade student at Rappahannock High School. He joined Boy Scouts in Winchester in 1985 and transferred to Troop 250 of Callao when the family moved to Haynesville in July 1986. He progressed through the ranks of Scouting very quickly, earning a total of eight skill awards and 22 merit badges, as well as the God and Country award,. the highest religious award a Scout can earn.
While in Winchester’s Troop 9, he served as scribe, and after joining Troop 250 he was elected a patrol leader and then appointed junior assistant scoutmaster. In August 1986 l.e was elected into the Order of the Arrow, a national brotherhood of honor campers. He obtained brotherhood status in the OA in 1987 and also served as chapter chief of the Chicacoan Chapter Nawaka Lodge No. 3.
Scott and his family were members of Warsaw United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Warsaw United Methodist Youth Fellowship and has served as treasurer of that group since September 1987.
While in school, he was on the honor roll and carried a 3.5 grade point average. He received the Presidential Academic Fitness Award in 1985 as well as two United States Achievement Academy awards - one for exceptional abilities in history and one for leadership and service. He also received the academic award for scholastic achievement in 1986 and has won various creative writing awards.
