Mountain Store
plans festival
for the Fourth
The Mountain Store in Criglersville will host a Hot and Spicy Festival this Fourth of July weekend in celebration of its fourth year.
The Mountain Store is located in the old McCallister Mercantile store building, which for many years was the post office and community center for the area. Local residents, most of whom lived up in the mountains, brought rabbits and turkeys to the store in exchange for wooden tokens, that were later used to purchase clothing, groceries and farming supplies.
Priscilla McDaniel, who now manages the store, is a descendant of these people and tells interesting stories to visitors from nearby Graves Mountain Lodge.
