A four-week series of watercise classes will begin Thursday, July 7, at Leggett’s pool in Harris Hollow. Classes will be held Thursdays and Mondays at 6 p.m. Fee is $25 with all proceeds being donated to the Child Care and Learning Center. The movie Full Metal Jacket, called one of the most riveting Vietnam films to date, will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, July 2 and 3, at 7:30 each evening. Against a replica of Hue City, Stanley Kubrick creates an eerie story about the rebuilding of youth into killing machines. Matthew Modine plays Pvt. Joker, a firsthand witness to the psychological fallout affecting the kids in uniform. Kubrick infuses a dreamlike, fatalistic and absorbing quality within his rigidly drawn plot structure. The movie is rated R. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Ladies Auxiliary to host bake sale
The Washington Ladies Auxiliary will have their annual bake sale on the 4th of July in front of the Town Hall. Baked goods or a cash donation will be greatly appreciated. The Thrift Shop will also be open. Lots of good clothes, books and household items will be for sale. “Come out on the 4th for a fun filled day,” said an auxiliary member.

Amissville carnival June 29-July 2
The Amissville Volunteer Firemen’s carnival will be held June 29July 2. Wednesday night will be family night and you can ride until closing for $5. The parade will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. Crowning of the queen will be at 11 p.m. on Friday and drawing for the $1,000 grand prize along with other prizes will be on Saturday. Concessions, shows, rides and games will be featured throughout the four-night event. “Bring the whole family and enjoy the carnival,” said a spokesperson.
