Concerning the summer kitchen, Mr. McCarthy said, “The main reason I had not proposed saving it was a reservation about whether it could be moved. Others say it can.”
“Where that leaves us,” he told the board, is that “Under the Historic District Ordinance, our next recourse is an appeal to the town council. I feel the split vote warrants review by the higher body. I feel their level of concern is more substantial than the encroachment itself is.”
“I would ask your support to move the summer kitchen to an area in front of the exercise yard, screening the exercise yard,” Mr. McCarthy said. “I’m not in a position to tell you how much that might cost. It is useful storage space. It might be needed as office space, and there would be some cost in demolishing it. The extra cost will not be dramatic, but it could be several thousand dollars,” he said.
