“This whole situation puts me in a hot spot,” Hampton District Supervisor Mike Massie said. He noted that he represents the people in the town as well as the rest of the district. “The ARB is an arm of the town government, but in this particular decision I cannot in good faith support them,” he said, before voting in favor of an appeal to the council."
Later Mr. Massie noted that the supervisors had explored the possibility of having food for the prisoners prepared in the school system cafeterias, but found that a kitchen addition to the jail would pay for itself in three or four years.
