Open house
There will be an open house at the Rappahannock County Health Department on Friday, June 9 from 2-4 p.m. The health department has recently relocated in the building that was formerly “The Washington Cash Store” on the comer of Main and Calvert Streets. The public is invited to attend.
Burke reunion
The families of the late Lewis and Bessie Jenkins Burke will hold a reunion on Sunday, June 11 at the Rappahannock Park near Washington. Family members and friends are invited to attend, bringing a picnic lunch and beverage, and meet old and new friends. Lunch will be served at 12:30.
Youth revival at First Baptist
Youth revival services will be held at First Baptist Church beginning Wednesday, June 14 through Friday, June 16. On Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. there will be a special presentation by Mr. Samuel Glasker; at 8 p.m. guest speaker will be Rev. Walter “Billy” Scott Jr. of Rising Zion Baptist in Winston and music by the Youth Choir of Rising Zion. On Thursday from 6:30-7:30 there will be a rapp session with Pastor Grant moderator; at 8 p.m. guest speaker will be Rev. Arthur Patterson of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Charles Town, W. Va. and music by Sister Rita Lewis Ellerbee of Culpeper and on Friday at 6:30 there will be a “Share Your Talent for Christ Night;” at 8 p.m. guest speaker will be Rev. Forrest Freeman and music by the Young Adult Choir of Shiloh Baptist Church.
'A Cry in the Dark'
The movie A Cry in the Dark will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Meryl Streep and Sam Neill. Streep packs her bag of accents for Australia in this adaptation of a true-life murder trial. She’s Lindv Chamberlain, accused of murdering her 9-week-old daughter Azaria while on a camping trip to Ayers Rock, who launched a tabloid-headlined circus show when she and husband Michael (Neill) testified Azaria was killed by a wild dog, known as a dingo. The movie is rated PG-13. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
