After 13 days of rain and overroast skies the sun broke through to shine on the Rappahannock County Garden Club’s Fortieth Anniversary celebration. The Mini-Flower show staged at White’s Whitcairn Farm by Marj Exton and Christine Johnston, with active participation by all club members, was an outstanding success.
Honored guests who journeyed from far corners of the State to help members celebrate included Mrs. DeWitt B. Casler Jr., president of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs from Richmond, who presented a 40-year certificate to the club. Other honored guests were Mrs. G. N. Funkhouser Jr.. VFGC State Treasurer from Fauquier County; our own Florence Nordone, Shenandoah District President; Mrs. Jared Close, Shenandoah District Director Secretary from Rockingham County and Mrs. W'illiam B. Downer, Shenandoah District director and treasurer from Albermarle County.
The array of spring bouquets, small and large, that emerged from Rappahannock’s soaking-wet gardens was quite remarkable. In the Artistic Division, blue ribbons were awarded in the following classes: “Anniversary Waltz;” Helen Platt; “An Elegant Tribute,” Jane Peterson; “A Small Beginning," Dottie
