Students prepare
for Science Fair

Elementary and high school science students are preparing for a Science Fair to be held at the elementary school Feb. 28 and March 1.
Students in all grades will be participating, although only winners in grades six and above will be eligible to participate in regional fairs in Charlottesville.
Although models and demonstrations are allowed, students are encouraged to do research and conduct actual experiments. High school physics students will judge projects of groups in kindergarten through fourth grade. Faculty at both schools and community members will judge the older students’ work.
Students will be entering work in six categories: chemistry, computer science, earth science, life science, physics, and models or demonstrations.
Elementary Principal Bernard Chesshir told the School Board, “The emphasis is on the learning process. We want them to learn, not just enter to win.”
Judging will take place Thursday evening and Friday morning. Also the fair will be open to the public from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday evening. That will also be a time when parents of students going on the seventh grade trip can hear a presentation about the trip.
