tyrant overruns a small neighbor, shooting children dead in the streets, raping women in the streets, targeting civilian populations and terrorizing his pwn trustees in the process, basic human rights and freedom the world over is threatened. An old professor of mine used to say, “when someone comes onto my block and begins shooting at people, someone has to stop him. When someone decides to stop him, that’s war.”
Unfortunately, the puny despots of history understand only one language. Once in a while we are compelled to speak that language. Thank God at such times we can.
There is scarcely a member of our armed forces serving in the Arabian Desert today except for the cause of peace. They know full well they are there to restore balance to the region. They also know there can be no workable solution until the toys of war are destroyed. How this preposterous arsenal was amassed is beside the point. It must be neutralized.
We Americans often feel uncomfortable in our role as policeman for the world. But frankly we are doing it because no one else will. The coordinating of this massive allied coalition is a step in the right direction. For the sake of all the oppressed of the world, we must succeed. And let us hope that it is a long, long time before anyone else foolishly underestimates the American spirit.
