Visiting Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello, last spring really made an impact on me. I was attempting to gather research in order to write a term paper on Jefferson’s architectural marvel.
Jefferson’s home is a testimony to the sort of man he was. Jefferson is a testimony to the sort of ideals and heritage that all Americans should possess.
Society today seems to have drifted away from our once strong American heritage. There are many things which could be the cause of this. Among them is the fact that, as time goes by, peoples’ attitudes change.
Somewhere along the generation line, our American heritage was lost. People think about money more these days than our basic American ideals of freedom, integrity and honesty.
Going up on Jefferson’s “little mountain” outside of Charlottesville reminded me of the American heritage which we sorely need back in our society. I kind of wish that I had lived back then so I could better grasp what our true American hen
