vote for fluff

The Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 in a special meeting Monday night to contract with Davis Industries of Lorton to accept up to 30 tons per day of “fluff” at the landfill. “Fluff” is what is left when automobiles are chopped up and the metal removed to be recycled.
Stonewall-Hawthom District representative Robert Anderson was the only member of the board to vote against the proposal. He was concerned that at some time in the future the county might have environmental problems with the material.
He said he understood that most of the material is plastic, similar to trash that is already going into the landfill from Rappahannock citizens. “We have to put that in,” he said. “We don’t have to take ’fluff.’ It’s a commercial by-product. It’s going into a commercial landfill now, and I kind of think that’s where it ought to stay.”
The terms of the contract to be presented to Davis Industries calls for the company to pay the county $25 per ton for each ton the county accepts. The “fluff” will be used instead of dirt to cover the regular trash each day and then the area will be covered by a fabric layer that is removed each day for more trashBesides
