Ernest D. Keen, 54, of Jeffersonton, was driving on Route 611 during a severe storm when his 1989 Ford pickup truck struck a tree that had been uprooted and fallen into the road.
Moore said Keen was not injured, but his pickup truck was destroyed.
• An unknown vehicle was blamed for an accident Aug. 14 on U.S. 211, four-tenths of a mile west of Route 642. Trooper Moore reported that a 1992 Oldsmobile, driven by John M. Irvine, 53, of Manchester, England, and a 1985 White tractor-trailer, driven by Brian J. Rocker, 29, of Lumberton, N.C., were both eastbound on U.S. 211.
As the two vehicles approached a private driveway, Moore reported, another car described only as a station wagon backed from the driveway into U.S. 211, into the path of Irvine’s car. Irvine attempted to avoid the other car by swerving into the left lane, where he was hit by Rocker’s truck.
Moore said neither driver was injured, although approximately $3,000 damage was done to Irvine’s car. The tractor-trailer sustained only minor damage. The unknown vehicle that apparently caused the accident left the scene, Moore added. No charges were filed.
