While the country spent most of this year dealing with a Presidential election and the debate over the economic recovery, Rappahannock County tried to deal with several important issues, all related to growth.

Faced with rising enrollments particularly at the elementary school, the School Board recommended that the county build a middle school. In January a public hearing was held on the proposal, and the majority of people in atten„ .dance-said the county should look for less costly alternatives.

During the current year the School Board contracted with Baughan and Baukages, an architectural firm in Luray, to look into the costs of alternatives. Their report presented in October said that additions to both schools could be done for ap
