He also was an active member of the advisory committee that prepared the family life curriculum for the local school system several years ago. Another of the many organizations the Rev. Hobson has supported is the RappahannockRapidan Community Services Board. He served on that board from 1980 until 1991. During that time he served as chairman for two years and part of a third. He served through the time when executive director Jo Gorman was sick and then dying. He continued until her replacement w as found.
“He was an outstanding member of the board,” Frances Thornton, another long-term member said. “Jo Gorman was too dependent on Jenks,” she added. “She was calling him for all decisions because he was so available and so nice.” She noted that the new director had sent her and the Rev. Hobson copies of the proposed new policy manual for their comments, “so he can’t get rid of this yet.”
Counselor Bob Treanor noted that the Rev. Hobson currently serves on the Mental Health Advisory Board and had been instrumental in getting Family Guidance Service into the county.
When the local effort was a satellite of the Culpeper office, the Rev. Hobson made the parish hall at Trinity available for the counsellors to meet with clients. “He’s made our job infinitely easier,” Mr. Treanor said. “He fully supports mental health work.”
But more important than the work he does for various boards and organizations is the work he does for individuals.
