His hobby for many years has been working on cars. One result of that hobby has been a close friendship with Mike Brown of B&B Service Center in Sperryville. When asked about his friend, Mr. Brown said, “I am not even a member of his church, but when my mother died, he came by and said, lets talk. He has helped so many people in this county, he has done so much it is hard to single any one thing out."
Ken and Mary Beth Shankel have been a part of the network the Rev. Hobson uses to provide that help.
“We go in on the front line,” Mrs. Shankel said. “Basically we have a mess. We're dealing with alcohol, spouse abuse, habitual inmates of the county jail, people who are sucking the county dry.”
“He will say, 'Go over there and see what the problem is,’” she added. “He’ll call on welfare, mental health. I’ve seen months, even years, going into an individual.” Not all of these efforts are fruitful, but many are.
“He elicits every asset available in the county, usually without tapping county finances," she said. “I run into people Jenks has intervened with all over the county who are now contributing members of society.”
