s Employment Numbers
The latest employment figures for June indicate Rappahannock County’s unemployment stands at 3.2 percent, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. That translates to 146 people out of work.
The county is well below both Culpeper (4.8 percent) and Warren (6.5 percent) and also less than Fauquier, which registered 4.5 percent. Statewide the number was 5.5 percent.
Summer unemployment figures are generally swelled by high school and college students seeking summer work.
Bucket Brigade Solicits
Virginia’s Bucket Brigade is soliciting contributions to meet a critical need in the Rwandan refugee camps in Goma, Zaire.
Due to the soil conditions, sanitary latrines cannot be dug, and aid workers are requesting large buckets for use as portable toilets. The request for 30,000 large paint buckets with lids will be filled by Letica Co.
However, the Bucket Brigade needs to raise $60,000 to pay for the buckets, which cost $2 each. They will be transported to Zaire by the U.S. Air Force.
Donations may be sent to: Leeds Church Bucket Brigade, Marshall National Bank, P.O. Box 38, Marshall, Va. 22115. All donations will be used to buy buckets, and any surplus will be used to purchase additional relief supplies requested by the camp staff.
